Nagtabon Beach: how to get there, and what to watch for
Nagtabon is the beach near Puerto Princesa worth the trip: a public beach on the west coast, about 30 km from downtown and less than an hour's drive from the city centre. There is no formal entrance fee (some visitors report a small access or parking charge of ₱10–50), cottages rent for about ₱200–300, and local vendors sell food and drinks. It is undeveloped: no resort, no lifeguards, and nothing to buy beyond the basics, so draw cash in the city first. Get there by rented motorbike or a chartered tricycle that waits for you. A public beach, cottages, and mostly locals
Set the expectation properly: this is a good Philippine public beach, not an El Nido beach, and most of the people on it live here.
Nagtabon sits on Palawan's west coast, facing the open sea, about 30 km from downtown Puerto Princesa over the hills that run down the middle of the island. Beach guides put it at less than an hour from the city centre.
It is an open public beach, not a resort. What is there: cottages for rent at about ₱200–300, public restrooms, and local vendors selling food and drinks. Do not expect lifeguards, a resort restaurant or an ATM — bring the cash you need from the city.

Swimming at Nagtabon, stated plainly
Palawan News reported a visitor drowning at Nagtabon after drinking with friends and going out alone on a kayak, and one beach guide warns of strong waves and drowning incidents in the monsoon months it names, October to February. The beach faces open water. Treat it with respect.
This is an open public beach, not a managed resort. Do not plan on anyone being on duty — assume you are the safety system, and tell someone at your hotel where you are going.
Do not swim against the pull. Go sideways along the beach until you are out of it, then come in. Wave and shout while you do it.
The reported drowning followed an afternoon of drinking. Keep the beer for after you are out of the water.
Ask at the cottages before you go in. If the water looks lively, it is.
Every way to reach Nagtabon
There is no public transport to the sand. Every option either ends on the main road or is a charter, and that is the main reason families skip it. Agree any fare before you set off.

What a Nagtabon day actually looks like
Leave early, take cash, and get back before dark.
Pick the bike up in the city the evening before if you can, and leave in the morning while the day is still cool and the beach is close to empty. Take enough cash for a cottage, food, drinks and fuel.
There is nothing to do, and that is the product. Swim carefully, walk the beach, eat what the vendors are selling, sleep under a cottage roof. The beaches page ranks Nagtabon against everything else in range.
Head back well before dark. The road crosses the hills, and if you are on a bike you do not want to be learning it at night.
There are no Grab rides in Puerto Princesa yet. GrabFood has delivered in the city since October 2025, and on 30 September 2026 the city government said Grab's vehicles were undergoing the process to operate, but as of October 2026 you cannot book a car or bike ride on the app. The system here is the tricycle: the city ordinance fare for a shared ride is ₱12 for the first 2 km plus ₱2 a kilometre after, and drivers charge more to charter the whole trike from the airport. Agree the fare before you get in.

There is little to book here, and that is the point
Nagtabon has almost no bookable product on the big platforms — no joiner tours, no tickets, no formal entrance fee. What you can book is a bed nearby and a way of getting there that does not involve you on a motorbike.
