Bancao-Bancao and North Road: the best rooms in town
This is where the best hotel hardware in Puerto Princesa actually is. The belt east and north of the runway — Bancao-Bancao, BM Road, and North Road KM 2–4 by the Robinsons and SM malls — holds Hue at 8.9 from 3,470 reviews, Canvas at 8.6 from 2,161, Aziza for families and Princesa Garden for the pool complex. Rooms run ₱1,550 to ₱7,200 (~$27–124), every property here runs a free airport shuttle, and you are 0.4 to 1.8 miles from arrivals. The cost is dinner: it is a ₱50–70 tricycle each way to the restaurants on Rizal Avenue.
Quiet, semi-suburban, and built around hotel compounds
Nobody stays here for the neighbourhood. They stay for the room, the pool and the shuttle, and those three things are genuinely better here than anywhere else in the city.
The belt starts immediately east of the runway in Bancao-Bancao and San Manuel, runs up BM Road, and continues north along North Road through KM 2–4, where Robinsons Place Palawan and SM City sit. It is residential, low-rise and quiet, with hotel compounds behind gates rather than a street you wander. Food is hotel restaurants and mall chains, plus a few local finds on Manalo Street — you will tricycle to dinner, and it will cost you ₱50–70 each way.
In exchange you get the things the centre cannot offer: real pools, quiet nights, mall aircon and groceries fifteen minutes from your room, and a free airport shuttle at almost every property. On a 05:30 flight out that shuttle is worth more than any amount of walkability. Hue is 1.8 miles from the terminal, Canvas 0.8, One Manalo Place 0.4 — the closest full hotel to arrivals in the city.
One expectation to reset before you book anything on this coast. Several properties here advertise a beach and the beach is a tidal flat. Princesa Garden's seafront is a shorefront, not a swimmable white-sand beach; Microtel's private beach has persistent low-tide limits; Costa Palawan's is shallow and tidal. Swimming here is pool-first, always. The nearest beach worth the name is Nagtabon, 45–60 minutes away over the ridge, and the real water is in Honda Bay or five and a half hours north.

Hue also appears at $72 with 8.7 from 2,081 reviews on a second platform — it is the de-facto flagship city hotel either way. Nothing in this zone is above four stars, because nothing in this city is.
The four picks that cover almost everyone
Hue Hotels & Resorts — the design pick
The best-looking room in Palawan south of El Nido, with a rooftop pool and bar and the highest review volume in the city. Book a room away from the road — soundproofing is the one consistent complaint.
Canvas Boutique — the reliable midrange
The most-named midrange hotel in the forums, and the rooms are genuinely big. Free airport shuttle, a proper pool, and the risk is an event in the function space on the wrong night.
Aziza Paradise — the family value pick
Resort grounds, a kids' pool, a hot tub, a spa and a free shuttle for as little as $40. Cleanliness feedback is mixed and the wifi is inconsistent — this is value, not polish.
Costa Palawan — the quiet-couples pick
The highest score on the fringe from a small sample: a garden resort about 5 km out with a pool and its own restaurant. The beach is shallow and tidal, so treat the water as scenery.

Airport-area questions, answered
Which is the best hotel in Puerto Princesa?
Hue Hotels & Resorts on North Road KM 3, by both score and volume: 8.9/10 from 3,470 reviews, with a rooftop pool and bar. Canvas Boutique at 8.6 from 2,161 is the reliable alternative, and Costa Palawan scores 9.0 but from only 202 reviews.
Do Puerto Princesa hotels have free airport shuttles?
Most of the midrange and above ones on this fringe do — Canvas, Aziza, Ivywall and others, all within 0.4 to 1.8 miles of arrivals. It is close to standard here. The Best Western Plus Ivywall wants 2 days' notice; check the same when you book anywhere else.
Is there a beach hotel in Puerto Princesa?
There are beachfront hotels, but the beaches are tidal flats. Princesa Garden at ~$124 has a shorefront rather than a swimmable beach, Microtel at $39–106 has persistent low-tide limits, and Costa Palawan's is shallow. Swim in the pool and take the boat to Honda Bay.
Is Microtel Puerto Princesa still open?
Yes. It is open and bookable through 2025–26 at $39–106 a night, and the closure rumours circulating on older pages are unfounded. Scores split between platforms at 8.2 and 7.4, and the recurring gripes are mosquitoes and the 3.5 miles to the centre.
Which hotel is closest to Puerto Princesa airport?
One Manalo Place, 0.4 miles from the terminal — the closest full hotel to arrivals, with the Aplaya seafood restaurant on site. It scores 7.7 from 611 reviews and the weak points are pool upkeep and occasional nightclub noise.
Where should families stay in Puerto Princesa?
Aziza Paradise on BM Road at $40–90 for the kids' pool, hot tub and free shuttle, or Princesa Garden at around $124 for the biggest pool complex in Palawan. Add an Astoria Palawan waterpark night 45–90 minutes north if you want a full resort day.
Is it far from the airport hotels to the restaurants?
About 2–3 km, ten minutes and ₱50–70 by tricycle each way. There is no Grab in this city, so you hail a tricycle at the gate or ask reception to call one. Plan dinner rather than wandering out and hoping.
in the city.
₱1,550–7,200.
Hue, Canvas, Aziza, Costa Palawan and the coastal resorts, all with pools and nearly all with free airport shuttles. The only zone in Puerto Princesa where the hardware is the reason to book.
